The Pixel 3 Review
Yes. All the leaks were true !
Everyone who follows tech community on twitter or anywhere else know that the Pixel 3 leaked so much before the official launch. It was leaked upto a point that one Pixel 3 was actually sold on a store in Hong Kong before the official launch.
And yes. All of the leaks were true. Pixel 3 has bezels and we have that big ugly notch on Pixel 3 XL.
For those spec nerds..
Both the Pixel and Pixel 3 XL has Snapdragon 845 coupled with 4 GB RAM. Pixel 3 comes with 5.5 inch2,960×1,440-pixel resolution display while the XL has 6.3 inch display at same resolution. Both the units are powered by 2,915 Mah battery. The mobile comes with either 64 or 128 GB internal storage with prices starting at Rs.71,000 in Indian market.
Pixel’s have one of the best cameras in the market. And Pixel 3 is expected to have the same. Google decided to have a dual 8 MP camera upfront and single 16 MP camera over the back trusting on superior image processing for superb shots including portrait mode shots. Google claims that it has improved its image processing algorithm and camera lens for better low light performance this year around.
I had some little time with the Pixel 3 camera. The camera looks great just as last year’s Pixel. I tried the camera on “well-lit” conditions and we would have to wait to know about its low light camera performance. I would post a new article when i completely get to know about the camera. We would have to wait for now.
My favorite. Stock “Vanilla” Android Pie. One Word. Fluid. Smooth Android Experience. Initially i thought that the 4 GB RAM would bottle neck the performance. But so far so good. 4 GB RAM seems to do trick for Pixel. But some older apps like games gets deleted from RAM and the system has to load it once more from storage. Personally i wish that the Pixel had 6GB of RAM considering its price. Come on Google ! It’s 2018
And finally. The ugly notch.
Its 2018. And almost every flagship this year had a notch. Yes, we did see some pretty good innovations for Bezel-less smartphones this year, but not all those solutions are meant for mass market. Smartphones have notches. But not as big as Pixel 3 XL’s notch. Its ugly and takes up space on the screen.
Android hides the notch by having notification bar as thick as the notch and in Pixel’s case we ended up with a pretty big notification bar. Look at the image below to know what i am saying.
And when you have to hide the notch, the system completely blacks out the space and the notification bar shows below the notch leaving the space useless.
Notches are fine. Accept or not its there. I wish Google implemented the notch somewhat better but we still get the pretty good stereo front facing speakers. One of the best front facing speakers last year that we all loved so dearly.
Apart from the above mentioned, the Pixel is upgraded with IP 68 water and dust resistance meaning that the phone can withstand upto 1.5 meters of water for upto 30 minutes. Its good to know that your smartphone could handle rains and occasional drops into water.
The Pixel 3 starts at 71,000 cheaper than the iPhone XS and prebook has started over at Flipkart. Click the link below to prebook yours.
